Mysuru-based All India Institute of Speech and Hearing (AIISH) is going green by installing a 472 kWh rooftop solar power plant.

Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission has set a target of achieving 1,00,000 MW as India’s solar power capacity by 2022. To achieve this, the Prime Minister has directed expeditious installation of rooftop solar projects on government building premises. The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has initiated the installation of rooftop solar power plants in all its buildings housing institutions and offices across the country, a release said.

Under the mission, AIISH has been allocated 472 kWh grid connected rooftop solar power system. The project is being implemented at AIISH by NTPC Vidyuth Vyapar Nigam Ltd., through Sun Renewables, Gurugram. The implementing agency has completed all background work required for the implementation of the project, the release added.

S.R. Savithri, director, AIISH, recently signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Vikram Reddy, general manager (South India), Sun Renewables, initiating the process of implementation. In the release, Ajish K. Abraham, nodal officer for the project, informed that AIISH happens to be the first institute under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to sign the PPA.

This project is expected to be completed by August 2018.
