The ambitious and pioneering target which has been set by India for implanting of 175 Gigawatt (GW) of renewable energy capacity by 2022 has now being further raised to 227 GW considering that the nation is well on its approach to surpass the recently set target, as per Vice president M.Venkaiah Naidu.

While addressing in the fourth Resilient Cities Asia-Pacific (RCAP) Congress 2019 organised by the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives, in New Delhi, he called upon town organizers for making sustainable solutions such as harvesting solar energy and upgrading the green cover as an essential and most important aspect of town planning.

Naidu also showed concern towards how with the increasing energy demand has increased the use of fossil fuels which creates high emission of gasses and it causes extremely level of air pollution. He said that this needs to be reduced by exploring and investing in new form of energy sources such as solar and priority should be given to tree plantation, solid waste management, protection and rejuvenation of water bodies. According to him economic growth must take but it should be followed up with consideration to environmental protection. “It cannot be business as usual as far as development is concerned,” he added.

The Vice President called upon the agents of provinces and urban communities of different nations present to embrace creative ways to ensure low emission-oriented development, adding that cities are combating the results of environmental change consistently.

“India, I must proudly say, is now one of the global leaders in addressing this challenge head-on. As recently announced at the 24th Conference of Parties on Climate Change, in Katowice, Poland, our country is well on its way to achieve our stated Nationally Determined Contributions,” Naidu said.

He also said indicating to a recent report, implementing a circular economy all around world makes the Paris Agreement target reachable and the world requires circular economy plans like expanding the contribution of renewable in the nations’ energy mix and improving energy effectiveness measures.
