Director of the Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar Prof. R.V. Raja Kumar, inaugurated a battery operated vehicle service in its campus. This initiative was taken to embrace the green culture and to promote a greener ecosystem along with a motive to provide a pollution free and cleaner atmosphere for the students and the residents inside the campus.
IIT Bhubaneswar has now become an example for many other institutes who can now switch to these pollution-free vehicles and play a vital role in saving and conserving the environment. Prof. R.V. Raja Kumar, the Director of the IIT Bhubaneswar said that, “We at IIT Bhubaneswar are committed to building a green campus, we have achieved a fairly good amount of success in this endeavor through our massive plantation drives, cycling culture, zero discharge designs following GRIHA norms, rain-water harvesting, and the same will continue. It gives me happiness to share with all that we have added yet another dimension to our initiatives. With the installation of electric vehicles inside the campus, we look forward to going one step ahead on lines with the Govt. of India who has been working aggressively on promoting new and renewable sources. The composites can avail this as a means of transportation and it is helpful to all the residents on the campus. We would like to thank Maini Materials Movement, Bangalore for partnering with IIT Bhubaneswar as the service provider in this endeavor.”
University students, faculty and staff members in large numbers could be seen actively participating in the inaugural function in the campus itself. Prof. Sujit Roy, Head, Minerals, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Col (Dr) Subodh Kumar, Registrar, and Dr. Rajesh Roshan Dash, Professor-in-Charge, Transport Facilities, IIT Bhubaneswar were also present at the moment to support the initiative taken by the institute. The battery run vehicles will be operated inside the campus premises at very nominal charges to the greatest interest of the residents residing in the campus. In the principal stage, three number of IS certified vehicles will be operational inside the campus and the number of the vehicle will further increase in the future according to the necessity.
