Kerala has set an ambitious goal for EV plan under which the state intends to roll out more than 1 million electric vehicles on the state street. These will incorporate 3,000 buses, 2 lakh bikes, 50,000 three-wheelers, 1,000 goods carriers, and 100 ships as a major aspect of the pilot fleet and every one of them will become an electric controlled vehicleelectric vehicles.

The EV strategy of Kerala will not only concentrate on rolling out of electric vehicles it will also invest in building charging infrastructure and developing suitable technology as well,  Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said in the inaugural ceremony of a two-day event ‘Evolve: Kerala mobility conference and expo’ that held at Grand Hyatt in Bolghatty Island.

The State-run KAL plans to roll out 8,000 e-autos a year. It has additionally tied up with Swiss e-bus maker HESS to assemble and later on manufacture E-buses, for which a Memorandum Of Understanding (MoU) was signed on Saturday. The plan is to make 3,000 e-buses for KSRTC. The KSRTC has already started inviting bids for 1,500 e-buses on wet rent this year. Thiruvananthapuram would have 100% e-mobile public transport within a year, he said.

Meanwhile, NitiAayog CEO Amitabh Kant is completely supporting and urging Kerala to become the front runner in manufacturing all items needed for manufacturing e-mobility in India itself rather than importing it from remote nations. With this, he has also promised to provide subsidies and exemption for promoting and encouraging people for using E-mobility. E-mobility is a new challenge and it needs encouragement and support from the Centre, said Hibi Eden, MP.

Kerala has been a leader among the Indian states with regards to utilizing green versatility answers for open transportation. The state propelled the first LNG bus and solar ship in India.

Kerala Government will manufacture the charging infrastructure for the electric vehicle fleet in association with the NTPC, Energy Efficient Services Ltd (EESL).
